Men 'armed with baseball bats' raid Southport jewellery shop

A Southport jewellery shop was raided by a gang of two men reportedly armed with baseball bats.

The two men fled with jewellery after the robbery at Prestige Diamonds, Lord Street, at around 5.30pm on Saturday, February 17. The left in a Mercedes van, driven by a third man, towards the far end of Lord Street.

The van was later found burnt out on Booth Street and it is believed that the group left the area in a purple Audi with black alloy wheels.

Nobody was injured during the incident but staff were left ‘shaken’ by their ordeal.

Merseyside Police has launched a investigation and is asking any witnesses to come forward,

One of the males is described as approximately 30 years of age, 5ft 10in tall, of large build and wearing a grey tracksuit and black face covering.

Detective Inspector Steve Christian said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Lord Street this evening who saw anything suspicious or saw the males entering or leaving the shop to contact us a matter of urgency. I would also appeal to anyone who has CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident to get in touch.

“Nobody was injured but staff have been left shaken and I want to reassure the local community that we are committed to finding the people responsible and bringing them to justice.”
